Slovenia Winter Trip

Guess What? I finally made it to Lake Bled, Slovenia. It's been on my bucket list for ages, and i couldn't wait to see it. I imagined snowy mountains surrounding the famous island with the church sitting in the cold lake, with gentle mists rising in the warm sunrise.

But sadly, it was a warm January morning with no snow in sight, and it was starting to rain (heavily).

However, i was rewarded for my efforts with an amazing atmospheric view of the church (Cerkev Marijinega Vnebovzetja) in the misty pre dawn light. The light changed within minutes and became almost purple as the sun fought to break through. 

Overall a great start to a trip which the previous night looked like it was going to end with me having to plan another trip here in the coming years.

The Calm Before the Storm — A Couple of Days in Denver

There's a particular kind of itch you get the day before a big trip properly begins. The gear's checked, the bags are packed, and the storms I'd flown all this way to chase were still a few days off, sulking somewhere out over the Plains and biding their time. So rather than pace the hotel room and refresh the forecast for the hundredth time, I did the only sensible thing — grabbed the camera, laced up my boots, and gave myself a couple of days to warm up. Shake off the jet lag, get the eye working again, and remember which way round the Hasselblad goes.

Denver, it turns out, is a wonderful place to do exactly that.
