Scottish Elm Burl & Golden Resin
There's something almost alchemical about what happens when you pair Scottish elm burl with golden resin and put it on a lathe. What comes out the other side is this — and it really is something to behold.
The barrel is a collaboration between nature and craft that neither could have managed alone. The elm burl brings what elm burl always brings: that deep, smouldering warmth of reddish-brown and mahogany, all wild swirling grain and unpredictable figure that shifts tone every time the light changes. And flowing through it, pooling around it, chasing its contours like liquid sunlight, is the golden olive resin — translucent and luminous, soft as honey where it gathers and almost electric where it catches the light at an angle. The two materials blend and separate in a way that looks entirely unrepeatable, because it absolutely is.
Chrome fittings throughout keep things clean and contemporary, letting that extraordinary barrel take centre stage exactly as it deserves. And then there's the nib — a beautifully engraved gold nib that feels like the perfect full stop on the whole composition. Proper, grown-up fountain pen writing, with a barrel worthy of it.
Scotland's forests didn't know they were making pen blanks. But we're very glad they were.
