Ambrosia maple is a light-coloured maple wood with distinctive dark streaks and small holes caused by the ambrosia beetle and its symbiotic fungi. The beetle bores into the tree, and the fungus it carries creates discoloured staining, often bluish-grey or brown, in a unique, worm-like pattern throughout the timber.
