This is a shot of me on board the Elinca in Sept 2008. I am trying to take a shot of the setting sun reflecting in the clouds whilst also trying not to slide into the sea!!!
I have been taking photographs since buying a Canon EOS Rebel from the USA back in 2004. It was one of the first affordable digital SLR camera's and after a summer trip to the Bahamas and the USA I was hooked.
I upgraded quite soon to the EOS 1DS Mk2 to take advantage of the full frame sensor which attracted me as I preferred Landscape work to any other. The APS sensor on the other Canon range meant my 17-40mm lens was actually more like a 27-60mm Zoom. This was not getting me the results I wanted.
The test run of the 1DS was in China in 2006 when I visited lots of places including Tibet which still remains a place I will go back to as soon as I can. Its a great region of the world and the people simply fantastic.
Trips to Iceland, Kenya, Zanzibar, Provence and Morocco have followed some with the family and some on my own. All in fact with a slant on photography (not that they knew that of course).
In 2007 I went on a Photo Adventure workshop with Lee Frost which was one of many to follow including Dartmoor, The Lake District and in September 2008 a memorable trip on board the Elinca Yacht in the Outer Hebrides.
Current equipment includes the 1DS (I cannot afford the 1DS Mk3), a modified 30D for infrared, a 40D for back up and when I like to use the APS sensor. A range of lenses and flash equipment and of course Photoshop CS3. I still make use of a Holga once in a while when I fancy taking pot luck with everything including exposure, depth of field and in fact every aspect of taking a photo!!
I am an active member of the St Ives Photographic Club and joined this in October 2007 to help develop my Photography in other areas. This has been a great success for me with some winning shots in various competitions the club holds.
I have recently been fortunate enough to have an image of Dartmoor included in the Take a View 2008 book and exhibition at the National Gallery in London. This is something I am very pleased about. Further information and the image are on the news link at the top of the page.
I have upcoming trips planned to Arizona, Tuscany and the Isle of Skye.
I hope you enjoy some of the images shown on the site and would be happy to receive any comments you may have.
